Team-building cocktail workshop: format, tips and prices

Shaking a shaker, measuring a syrup, botching your first citrus garnish and laughing about it together: a cocktail workshop is one of the most convivial team-building activities. Here is how to organise it so it remains a moment of learning and sharing, not just a tasting.

Why choose a cocktail workshop for team building?

A cocktail workshop ticks several boxes at once. It is open to everyone, with no physical requirements. It calls for cooperation (one person measures, another prepares the ice, a third takes care of the garnish). It produces a tangible result that you taste together. And it leaves participants with a skill they will use again at home, which keeps the memory alive long after the event.

It is also a flexible activity: to kick off afterwork drinks, at the end of a seminar day, as entertainment at a corporate party, or as the main activity of a team-bonding afternoon.

How does a cocktail workshop work?

  1. Welcome and introduction: the bartender presents the tools (shaker, jigger, bar spoon, strainer), the main families of cocktails and the hygiene rules.
  2. Demonstration: they make a first recipe in front of the group, explaining each move, the measures and why ice matters.
  3. Hands-on in teams: participants reproduce the recipe, then move on to the next ones. A typical workshop covers three cocktails.
  4. Free creation: each team invents its own recipe, names it and presents it to the group.
  5. Tasting and vote: the bartender, or the whole group, chooses the winning creation.

For three recipes and time for creation, allow around 1.5 to 2 hours. A shorter format fits into an hour if the workshop comes before dinner.

Should you offer an alcohol-free version?

Yes, always. Some of your colleagues do not drink alcohol, for health, religious or driving reasons, or simply out of taste. A good workshop offers each recipe as a “mocktail”: the techniques are the same, the flavours just as interesting, and nobody feels left out. You can even choose an entirely alcohol-free workshop, which makes sense during the day or before a meeting.

If the workshop includes alcohol, think about how participants will get home: water available, something to nibble, and a transport solution (organised car sharing, a shuttle, a reminder of public transport times). Your responsibility as an employer does not stop at the door of the room.

Where can you hold a cocktail workshop in Marseille?

The workshop can take place anywhere a bar can be set up: a seminar room, a terrace, a rooftop, a private beach, the garden of a Provençal bastide. The bartender needs a table or a bar, access to water nearby and somewhere to store the ice. Outdoors in a Marseille summer, ice melts fast: a shaded area or a gazebo is essential. Our illuminated mobile bar (€300, set-up included) lets you hold the workshop in a venue without a bar.

Which cocktails should you choose for a workshop?

For a group of beginners, choose recipes that each illustrate a different technique: a cocktail built directly in the glass, a shaken cocktail, a crushed or blended cocktail. Participants then leave with three different skills, not the same one three times. The great classics (mojito, caipirinha, margarita, spritz) are reassuring and easy to make again at home; a more original creation, based on seasonal fruit, rosemary or Provençal thyme, leaves a more local memory.

You can also link the recipes to your company: a cocktail in your logo’s colours, another named after a successful project from the year, a third that picks up the theme of the evening. The bartender adapts the menu to your constraints: allergies, special diets, the share of alcohol-free recipes.

How to get the whole group involved

  • Teams of three to five: everyone has a role (measuring, preparing, garnishing, presenting), nobody is left watching.
  • A challenge at the end: the free creation gives a shared goal and brings out unexpected talents.
  • A presentation to the group: each team “pitches” its creation in one minute, which often gets a lot of laughs.
  • An open vote: everyone tastes and votes, not just a jury.

Finally, give each participant a card with the recipes they made, the measures and the list of basic equipment. It is a tangible keepsake that takes the workshop home and brings back the event long afterwards.

How much does a cocktail workshop cost?

The price is almost always calculated per person, because it depends on the quantity of ingredients and the number of bartenders required. Check what is included: ingredients, spirits, ice, glassware, equipment, travel, set-up and clearing time. A workshop advertised as cheaper but without ice or glassware can quickly end up costing as much as the others.

With us, the cocktail workshop costs €70 per person for three recipes. It can be combined with a bar for the rest of the event: 100 Cocktail Pack from €900, glassware at €199. And like all our services, it qualifies for volume discounts (5% from 2 services, 10% from 4).
