When should you choose a cocktail reception over a seated dinner?

A cocktail reception with food suits events where conversation matters more than the meal: the close of a seminar, an opening, New Year greetings, a product launch, a client evening. It lets you welcome more people in the same space, keeps guests moving and shortens the evening. A seated dinner remains preferable for a gala dinner, a long awards ceremony or an older audience who won’t want to stand all evening.
