What events do local authorities organise?

Town halls, district town halls, inter-municipal bodies and community centres hold recurring events every year: the New Year reception in January, the Fête de la Musique on 21 June, neighbourhood festivals and end-of-school-year parties, openings of public facilities (school, sports hall, garden), and lunches and tea dances for seniors. Their shared goal: to build connections between residents, make public action visible and offer a free moment that is accessible to everyone.

We work with local authorities in Marseille and neighbouring towns, and the City of Marseille has placed its trust in us. We know their constraints: administrative lead times, a very broad audience and public spaces that were never designed to host a stage.

How does a neighbourhood festival run?

1. 1pm, set-up: stage, sound system, weighted gazebos, electrical connection approved with the technical services.
2. 3pm, family entertainment: giant games, roving stilt walkers, background music.
3. 6.30pm, speeches by elected officials: wireless microphones, sound set to be heard at the back of the square.
4. 7pm, drinks and open stage: local associations, neighbourhood bands, karaoke.
5. 9pm, dance party: DJ and lighting, until the time set by the municipal order.
6. 11pm, take-down: the square is cleared and left clean the same evening or the next morning.

What budget for a neighbourhood festival or the Fête de la Musique?

For a local authority, the entertainment budget is mostly technical equipment and artists. Here are our net hire and service prices:

A booking fee of €50, charged once per event, covers insurance and permit applications. Street artists, stage and light show are priced on quotation.

Where should the event take place?

Town hall square, park, school forecourt, seafront esplanade: each space has its own constraints for delivery vehicle access, neighbours and power supply. In Marseille as in Aubagne, La Ciotat or Martigues, we carry out a site visit with your technical services before pricing the sound system.

Which pitfalls should you avoid?

• Applying for permits too late: use of public space, temporary refreshment stand, traffic order.
• Underestimating the power supply: a DJ, a lit stage and a refrigerated refreshment stand won’t run off a single playground socket.
• Forgetting local residents: an information letter and a respected finishing time prevent complaints.
• Neglecting accessibility: an area reserved for people with reduced mobility near the stage.
